How to master the ultimate bouncy blow dry
(Posted on 16/12/22
Ahh we love this time of year!
The festive tunes are back on the radio, the decorations are up in the house and the high street is full of sequins.
It can mean only one thing - the countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun!
You guys are keeping us busy (thanks so much ♥) with appointments in the run up to the big day too, and we can't wait to help you shine.
From colour glow ups and refreshes to Great Lengths transformations, we are here to make you look, and feel, your absolute best.
And if you need a helping hand getting ready for cocktails with the girls or your office Christmas party, don't panic; we've got you covered.
You can read our step-by-step guide to achieving Head Office's signature blow dry at home below.
Big, bouncy and effortlessly beautiful, it's guaranteed to 'sleigh'....
The toolkit
- A medium-large round ceramic or tourmaline brush
- A hairdryer with a thin nozzle
- Olaplex No 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum
- Moroccanoil Root Boost Mousse
Step 1 - The prep
Start by prepping damp hair with a blow dry serum or oil to protect from the heat and eliminate frizz (one of our faves is Olaplex No 9, £28). Add a small amount of Moroccanoil Root Boost (£18.85), working through the roots to give your hair the ultimate lift - think of it as scaffolding to help it stay in place once dry.
Step 2 - The blow dry
The key is drying your hair in sections. We recommend starting at the front and working your way back, clipping the remaining hair away from your face until needed.
Ready? Here's what to do next:
- Tilt your head down and dry at this angle. It's the best way to inject instant height and bounce into your hair.
- Using a round brush, lift your hair at the root and pull upwards slightly. Holding the hairdryer so the nozzle almost sits flat across the top of your head, focus the heat on the root for a few seconds to create volume. Then pull the hair down towards your chin. The nozzle of the hairdryer should follow your brush - with the airflow travelling towards the ends - to create a smooth finish and avoid any breakage.
- Repeat this step with each section of hair until all of it ends up hanging forward.
Feeling confident? Once you've mastered this, try 'rolling' the brush while drying to create a soft curl. Think of it as a large roller and aim to wrap the hair around the barrel of the brush. Once cool, gently unfurl, or pin in place and take out later.
Step 3 - The finishing touch
Flip your hair over and guide into position with your hands. Finish with a spritz of hairspray, calm flyaways with a small amount of smoothing serum and you're good to go!
